About Sainte-Brigitte
Sainte-Brigitte is a small commune at the northern edge of the Morbihan, where the department meets the Côtes-d'Armor, and it sits in one of the most striking landscapes in inland Brittany.
A few minutes away lies the Lac de Guerlédan — at around twelve kilometres long, the largest lake in Brittany, created in the twenties when the Blavet was dammed. It has beaches, sailing, canoeing, paddleboarding and swimming in summer, a marked path all the way round for walkers, and wooded cliffs dropping straight into the water. Around it stretches the forest of Quénécan, thousands of hectares of oak and beech with the ruins of the Forges des Salles hidden inside it — an eighteenth-century ironworks village preserved almost intact.
This is walking, cycling and water country of a quality you would normally pay coastal prices for, and it is a couple of minutes from the plot.
For daily life, Cléguérec is around ten minutes with shops and services, Mûr-de-Bretagne about fifteen the other way, and Pontivy roughly twenty-five minutes south for the hospital, the supermarkets and the lycées. Saint-Brieuc and the north coast are around forty-five minutes, Lorient and the south coast about an hour and ten, and Rennes an hour and a half.
