A quiet, wooded plot of 688 m² at Cournon, with free choice of builder, eight minutes from Redon and five from La Gacilly according to the advertisement. With a brand new four-bedroom house and two bathrooms on it, the total is €205,000.
Mature trees are the one thing you cannot add to a plot, and they change what a new house feels like from the first day. On a plot this size the house can be placed to keep the best of them.
The house is our four-bedroom design with two bathrooms, over two floors with a garage. The ground floor has a bright open-plan living and dining room opening onto the terrace and garden, a fitted kitchen, a bedroom with its own bathroom, a separate WC and a utility room. Three further bedrooms and a second bathroom are upstairs. The layout can be adapted to suit you, and there is room here for a pool.
Water, electricity, telephone and mains drainage are nearby and the connections are surveyed and quoted as part of the works. Mains drainage is the good outcome: no individual treatment system to install or maintain.
About Cournon
Cournon is a small commune in the eastern Morbihan, in the wooded country between Redon and La Gacilly, and its position is unusually good — genuinely rural, but minutes from both a town and one of the most visited villages in Brittany.
La Gacilly, five minutes away, is a village of flowers, craftsmen and gardens, the home of Yves Rocher, and every summer it becomes an open-air gallery for a photography festival that draws visitors from across France. The Aff runs below it, and the valley is full of walking.
Around Cournon the country is woodland, small fields and lanes, with the Oust and the Nantes–Brest canal a few minutes south. The Île aux Pies, where the river cuts through rock, is close: cliffs, clear water, climbing and canoeing.
Redon is eight minutes: a town of around 9,500 with supermarkets, a hospital, doctors, primary schools and several lycées, a cinema, a swimming pool and a weekly market, and real employment rather than seasonal work. The abbey at its centre was founded in 832 and the old town around it is handsome.
The station in Redon runs a direct TGV to Paris in about two and a quarter hours, with Rennes and Nantes each around forty minutes by train and Vannes half an hour. Both airports are within an hour by road, and the Atlantic beaches around forty-five minutes.
