About Cruguel
Cruguel is a small commune in central Morbihan, in the countryside south of Josselin and west of Sérent. It has its own school and everyday services, which is what makes a village viable for a family rather than just for a holiday.
A few minutes away at Guéhenno stands one of the seven great calvaries of Brittany — an extraordinary sixteenth-century sculpted group around the church, smashed during the Revolution and painstakingly rebuilt by two local priests in the nineteenth century. It is the kind of thing you walk past in Brittany without realising you are looking at a national monument.
Josselin, fifteen minutes north, is the town for this corner: the Rohan château above the Oust, the canal and its towpath, a Saturday market, shops, restaurants, a medical centre and a secondary school. Sérent and Malestroit are each about fifteen minutes the other way, Ploërmel twenty-five for supermarkets and the hospital.
Vannes and the Gulf of Morbihan are around forty minutes south — close enough that a morning on the water is an ordinary thing to do rather than an expedition. Rennes is about an hour, and the N24 makes it an easy one.
