Four hundred metres from the sea, on a serviced plot of around 600 m² at Penvins — the seaside hamlet on the southern shore of Sarzeau, at the tip of its own little headland. The beach, the chapel and the handful of local shops are all within a short walk, and this is the least expensive of our Presqu'île de Rhuys packages by some margin.
The house is our four-bedroom villa: 115 m² over two floors with an integrated garage. The ground floor opens with a bright living and dining room giving onto the terrace and garden, a fitted kitchen, a double bedroom with its own bathroom, a separate WC and a utility room. Upstairs are three further bedrooms, a family bathroom and a second WC. The layout can be adapted to suit you — and on a plot this shape, a single-storey home is equally possible if you would prefer one.
About Penvins and Sarzeau
Penvins is the point at the south-eastern end of Sarzeau, where the land runs out into the Atlantic. The Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-la-Côte stands right on the tip, rebuilt in the 1870s on a rare Greek-cross plan so that it could stand up to the weather coming off the sea, and it is still a place of pilgrimage every 15 August. Beyond it the view opens across the bay of Quiberon in one direction and towards the red cliffs of Pénestin in the other.
The beach is the other reason people settle here. Sand runs for hundreds of metres and links, without interruption, to Landrezac and on to the beach below the Château de Suscinio. It is supervised in summer and holds handi-plage accreditation, with beach wheelchairs available at the lifeguard station. The wind is reliable, which has made Penvins one of the better-known kitesurfing and windsurfing spots on the Morbihan coast; when the tide is out the rock pools keep children occupied for hours, and the birdlife along this shore is exceptional.
Sarzeau itself, a few minutes up the road, is the main town of the peninsula: supermarkets, schools, doctors, a cinema, restaurants and a busy weekly market. The Château de Suscinio — the Dukes of Brittany's seaside residence, moated and restored, standing almost on the beach — is one of the great sights of the Morbihan and is on your doorstep here.
The Presqu'île de Rhuys has the Atlantic on one side and the Golfe du Morbihan on the other, so the sailing, the islands and the sheltered water are all within a few minutes. Vannes is under half an hour, with a TGV service reaching Paris in about two and a half hours. Nantes airport is around an hour and a half.
