About Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer

Saint-Jacut is a long, narrow finger of land reaching out between the bay of Arguenon and the bay of Lancieux, and it has eleven beaches strung along its two shores. That is the whole appeal: whichever way the wind is blowing, there is a sheltered beach on the other side, and you are never more than a few minutes' walk from the water.

The village is an old fishing settlement of low whitewashed houses and narrow lanes running down to the sea, and it has kept its character better than most of this coast. The abbey at the neck of the peninsula has been here since the eleventh century and still runs as a retreat. The Pointe du Chevet at the tip looks across to the Îles des Hébihens, which can be reached on foot at the lowest tides.

For everyday life there are bakeries, a small supermarket, restaurants, cafés and a summer market, with Ploubalay and its larger shops a few minutes inland. The GR34 coastal path runs right round the peninsula.

Dinan, one of the finest medieval towns in Brittany, is around half an hour away. Saint-Malo and its ferry port are roughly forty minutes, Dinard and its airport around twenty-five minutes, and Lamballe or Saint-Brieuc put Paris within two and a half hours by TGV.
