About Saint-Hilaire-le-Vouhis

Saint-Hilaire-le-Vouhis is a commune at the very centre of the Vendée, around twenty-five kilometres east of the departmental capital, bordered on its eastern side by the River Petit Lay.

It is a genuine, active village rather than a hamlet — its own school, its own shops and services, and a real community life. That matters for anyone moving permanently rather than for the summer: a village with a school is a village with young families in it.

The country around is the transition between the plaine and the bocage, with hedged fields giving way to more open arable land, and the valley of the Petit Lay running south towards Chantonnay. The lakes around Chantonnay are within a short drive for fishing, walking and watersports.

La Roche-sur-Yon, the departmental capital, is around twenty-five minutes.
