About Pleurtuit and the western Rance

Pleurtuit is a working town of around six thousand people just inland of Dinard, and it is the practical choice on this coast: supermarkets, schools at both levels, doctors, a pharmacy, sports facilities and a weekly market, with the sea ten minutes away rather than outside the door.

The commune runs east to the Rance. That side of it is wooded creeks, moorings and tidal water, with the GR34 along the bank, the old tide mills and the barrage at the top of the estuary — the first tidal power station of its scale in the world, opened in 1966 and still generating.

North is Dinard: four hundred belle-époque villas along the cliffs, the Promenade du Clair de Lune, the striped bathing tents on the Plage de l'Écluse, a casino, a seawater pool and a British film festival every autumn. West along the coast lie Saint-Briac, Lancieux and the Emerald Coast proper.

The Dinard–Pleurtuit–Saint-Malo airport is in the commune, with seasonal UK flights. Saint-Malo is fifteen minutes across the barrage, with the hospital, the walled city, the ferry port and the TGV station reaching Paris in under three hours. Dinan is twenty-five minutes up the river.
