About Plouézec and Port Lazo
Plouézec lies on the Goëlo coast, between Paimpol and Saint-Quay-Portrieux, and it has the most dramatic cliffs in the Côtes-d'Armor. The Pointe de Bilfot and the Pointe de Minard rise more than seventy metres straight out of the sea, and from the top the view runs across the bay of Paimpol to the Île de Bréhat and, on a clear day, the whole sweep of the Goëlo.
Port Lazo itself is a small stone harbour and a sheltered beach tucked in below the headland, the sort of place that is busy on an August afternoon and empty the rest of the year. The GR34 runs along the clifftops in both directions and is spectacular on this stretch. Inland the commune keeps working farmland and several restored windmills, one of which still grinds.
Paimpol is ten minutes up the road: a proper harbour town with a marina, a fish market, restaurants, supermarkets, schools, doctors and a railway line to Guingamp. From the Pointe de l'Arcouest, just beyond it, the boats leave for the Île de Bréhat — the car-free island of pink rock, mimosa and hydrangeas that is one of the treasures of the Breton coast, and fifteen minutes away by sea.
Saint-Brieuc, with its hospital and its TGV service reaching Paris in around two and a quarter hours, is roughly forty minutes. Guingamp is half an hour, and Lannion airport about forty-five minutes.
