About Persquen
Persquen is a small commune in the Scorff valley in north-west Morbihan, a few minutes from Guémené-sur-Scorff and firmly inside the Pays du Roi Morvan. It is granite country — old field boundaries, wooded river valleys, chapels at crossroads, and a quality of quiet that people either love immediately or find unnerving.
The valley of the Scorff running below is the real attraction. It is one of the cleanest rivers in Brittany, good for salmon and trout, and there are marked walking and cycling routes running between Persquen, Lignol, Guémené and Locmalo through some genuinely lovely country.
Guémené-sur-Scorff, five minutes away, is the town for daily life: a market, shops, bakers, a chemist, doctors and a medical centre, a school, and the andouille that has made the name known across France. Pontivy is around thirty-five minutes east for the hospital, the big supermarkets and the lycées. Lorient and the airport are about fifty minutes south, and the beaches at Guidel and Larmor-Plage a little under an hour.
This is one of the least expensive parts of Brittany, and the reason is simply distance from the sea. If you are happy to drive an hour for a beach, your money goes a very long way here.
