The gentle River Colmont flows through, and the surrounding landscape is classic Norman bocage — hedgerows, meadows, pear and apple orchards, and quiet lanes made for walking and cycling.
For a village of its size, the main village of Passais is remarkably well served: a doctors' surgery with nurses, a pharmacy, a bakery, a butcher, two hairdressers, a tabac, two banks, a bar-restaurant, a library, a theatre, schools, and a 24-hour filling station, plus a small Tuesday-morning market. In short, everything you need for comfortable daily life is on the doorstep.
The commune is beautifully placed. The medieval hilltop town of Domfront, with its castle ruins, ramparts, and festivals, is around 15 km away. The elegant spa resort of Bagnoles-de-l'Orne, set around its lake in the heart of the park, is close by. Mont-Saint-Michel is around 65 km — an easy day out — and for journeys home, Rennes and its international airport are around 100 km, Saint-Malo and its ferries around 110 km, and the port of Caen within comfortable reach.
