About Mérillac
Mérillac is a small, genuinely rural commune set in the pays of Le Mené, near the meeting point of three departments — the Côtes-d'Armor, Morbihan, and Ille-et-Vilaine converge nearby, placing this village at the very geographical heart of Brittany. Two of Brittany's most significant rivers define the area: the Rance, which begins its journey to the sea here in the hills, and the Meu. This is a landscape of quiet streams, ancient hedgerows, meadows, and deep Breton countryside that has remained largely unchanged for centuries.
Just a few kilometres away lies the vast Forest of the Hardouinais, one of the oldest and most extensive woodlands in all of Brittany, closely linked to the legendary territory of Brocéliande. Nearby Merdrignac, a labelled Station Verte, offers a full range of local shops, services, restaurants, and activities. The mythical Forest of Paimpont — the Brocéliande of the Arthurian legends, home to Merlin's tomb and the Fountain of Barenton — is around 31 km to the south-east.
Moncontour, one of the most beautifully preserved medieval walled towns in Brittany, is 21 km to the west. Dinan, one of the greatest medieval walled cities in all of France, is around 34 km to the north-east. Saint-Malo and its direct ferry crossings to the UK are approximately 52 km away, and Rennes, with its international airport, is around 50 km to the south-east.
