About living in Miniac-Morvan

Miniac-Morvan is a commune of around four thousand on the high ground between the Rance and the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, halfway between Saint-Malo and Dinan.

For a family it does the job. There is a supermarket, bakeries and shops, primary schooling in the village with a collège close by, doctors, a pharmacy, a sports complex, a library and a weekly market. The community is there in February. That is a different proposition from the coastal villages twenty minutes north, which are lovely in July and shuttered by November.

The N176 along the edge of the commune is what makes the geography work: Saint-Malo twenty minutes, Dinan fifteen, Dol-de-Bretagne ten, Rennes around fifty.

The Rance is on the western side — Pleudihen, La Vicomté, the wooded banks, the moorings, the tide mills and the GR34 towpath, with Dinan's medieval port at the top of the navigable river. The old railway through the commune is now a voie verte for walking and cycling.

Saint-Malo has the hospital, the lycées, the walled city, the beaches, the ferry port to Portsmouth, Poole and Jersey, and the TGV reaching Paris in under three hours. Mont-Saint-Michel is around forty-five minutes east.
