About Mohon
Mohon sits in central Morbihan between Josselin and Loudéac, on the edge of the forest of Lanouée — one of the largest woodlands in Brittany, thousands of hectares of oak and beech with forestry tracks running through it. If you like walking, cycling or simply having genuine forest at the end of the lane, that is the argument for this commune in a sentence.
The village itself is small but working, with a school and everyday services, and the countryside around it is deep bocage — hedged fields, sunken lanes, buzzards.
Josselin is around twenty minutes south and is the town people come to this area for: the Rohan château rising out of the Oust with its three round towers, the Nantes–Brest canal running through with its lock and its port, the half-timbered houses behind the basilica, a Saturday market, shops, restaurants and a secondary school. Ploërmel, about half an hour, has the supermarkets, the hospital and the lake.
Pontivy is forty minutes west, Rennes about an hour and ten by way of the N24, and Vannes and the Gulf of Morbihan a little under the hour. The coast is far enough away to keep prices where they are, and close enough for a day at the beach whenever the weather turns.
