About Moulines

Moulines is a small rural commune in the south of the Manche, in the bocage country where the department runs down to meet the Mayenne and the Ille-et-Vilaine. Small fields, thick hedges, narrow lanes, a scatter of grey stone farms — this is quiet, settled, working countryside.

Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët, a market town of around 5,800 people with supermarkets, schools, doctors, restaurants and a weekly market, is a short drive, so everyday life does not involve a long journey. Louvigné-du-Désert and Fougères lie just over the Breton border to the south.

The walking and cycling here are excellent, with waymarked paths through the bocage and voies vertes — old railway lines turned into traffic-free greenways — running for miles. The rivers hold trout and salmon, and the local farms still press their own cider and distil their own calvados.

Mont-Saint-Michel is around thirty-five minutes away. Fougères, with one of the largest medieval castles in Europe, is twenty-five minutes; Avranches about half an hour.
