About Lancieux
Lancieux is a small, well-kept village between the Frémur estuary and the sea, and it has one of the best beaches on this coast — a wide arc of pale sand facing north-west, with the Île Agot offshore and the sunsets that go with that aspect. Behind the beach the dunes and the old salt marsh have been kept open, and the coastal path runs from the point round towards Saint-Briac.
The village's landmark is its leaning bell tower, all that is left of the old church, standing on its own above the rooftops. Below it the tidal mill on the Frémur still stands across its pond, a reminder of how the estuary was worked before the road bridge. The centre is compact and genuinely useful: bakeries, a grocer, restaurants, cafés, a pharmacy and a market, busy in season and alive out of it.
What makes Lancieux valuable is what surrounds it. Saint-Briac and Saint-Lunaire are minutes east along the coast; Dinard, with its belle-époque villas, its casino and its airport, is around fifteen minutes; Saint-Malo and the ferries are half an hour; and Saint-Jacut and the bay of Arguenon lie just to the west.
Dinan is around half an hour inland, and Lamballe or Saint-Malo put Paris within two and a half to three hours by train.
