About La Jaudonnière

La Jaudonnière is a small commune in the Pays de Chantonnay, in the southern Vendée, set in the bocage between the valleys of the Petit Lay and the Smagne. This is quiet, working countryside — hedged fields, oak woods, sunken lanes and stone farms.

The village has the essentials and a genuine community, with Sainte-Hermine and Chantonnay both a short drive for supermarkets, schools, doctors and a weekly market. Sainte-Hermine is where Clemenceau made his first political speech, and it keeps a monument to him in the square.

The country around is good walking and cycling, with waymarked paths through the bocage and the lakes of the Chantonnay area — Rochereau, l'Angle-Guignard, Moulin-Papon — within easy reach for fishing and watersports.

Fontenay-le-Comte, the Renaissance town that was once the capital of Bas-Poitou, is around twenty-five minutes. The Marais Poitevin and its green canals are half an hour south. La Roche-sur-Yon is thirty-five minutes, Puy du Fou forty, and the Atlantic beaches at Les Sables-d'Olonne around an hour.
