Connected means exactly that: the two services that cost the most to bring in are already there. It takes a real unknown out of the budget before you start.
The house is our two-bedroom bungalow: 75 m², everything on one level. A bright open-plan living, dining and kitchen area opens onto the terrace and garden, with two bedrooms, a modern bathroom, a separate WC and a utility room. The layout can be adapted to your wishes and a garage can be added as an option. On 528 m² there is room for a terrace, planting and a proper garden.
About Le Gué-de-Velluire
Le Gué-de-Velluire is a village on the river Vendée in the marshes south of Fontenay-le-Comte, and it is one of the pleasantest small places in the Marais Poitevin.
The river runs right through it, wide and slow, with a quay, moorings and a bridge at the old ford the village is named for. From here you can take a punt or a canoe down into the wet marsh — the Venise Verte, the maze of poplar-shaded canals that is the second largest wetland in France and unlike anywhere else in the country. Boats can be hired with or without a guide at several villages nearby.
The other half of the marsh is here too: the marais desséché, the drained open country of long dykes, big skies, grazing land and enormous numbers of birds — herons, egrets, harriers, storks. The cycling on the raised tracks is flat, traffic-free and goes on for as long as you like.
The village has the basics and a real community. Fontenay-le-Comte, fifteen minutes north, is a Ville d'Art et d'Histoire with a Renaissance quarter, supermarkets, schools, a hospital and a market.
Niort and its TGV to Paris are around forty minutes. La Rochelle and its old port are about an hour, and the Atlantic beaches at L'Aiguillon-sur-Mer and La Tranche-sur-Mer around forty minutes.
