About Le Mesnil-Ozenne
Le Mesnil-Ozenne is a small commune in the south of the Manche, set on the high ground above the Sélune valley between Ducey and Saint-James. It is quiet, green and very well placed.
The Sélune valley below is the site of one of the largest river restoration projects in Europe. Two large hydroelectric dams have been removed, the reservoirs drained, and a river that had been blocked for a century is running free again — the salmon and sea trout are returning, and a long new stretch of valley has opened up for walking and cycling. It is a remarkable thing to have on your doorstep.
Ducey-les-Chéris, a few minutes away, has shops, a supermarket, restaurants, a school and a fine seventeenth-century château on the river. Avranches is around fifteen minutes: a hill town with a hospital, supermarkets, secondary schools, and the Scriptorial museum that houses the illuminated manuscripts brought down from Mont-Saint-Michel — some of the finest medieval books in Europe.
The Mont itself is around twenty minutes away, with the whole sweep of the bay and its beaches beyond. Saint-Malo and its ferries are about an hour, Rennes with its airport and TGV to Paris around fifty minutes, and Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët twenty minutes east.
