About Le Mesnil-Raoult and Condé-sur-Vire

Le Mesnil-Raoult sits above the Vire valley in the centre of the Manche, a few minutes from Condé-sur-Vire and ten from Saint-Lô.

The valley is the attraction. Here the Vire cuts a deep, wooded gorge through the granite — the Roches de Ham, a pair of cliffs standing eighty metres above the river a short drive away, give one of the great views in Normandy, out over the loops of the water and the bocage beyond. There is a footpath along the river, canoeing in summer, and good coarse and trout fishing.

Condé-sur-Vire is a working village with an unusual claim: it is the home of Elle & Vire, one of the best-known dairy names in France, whose creamery here has been turning Norman milk into butter and cream since the 1940s.
