Nine hundred and fifty square metres of garden, a brand new four-bedroom house with two bathrooms on it, and a town two minutes down the road. €203,000 for the lot.
The house is our four-bedroom design with two bathrooms, over two floors with a garage. Downstairs there is a bright open-plan living and dining room opening onto the terrace and garden, a fitted kitchen, a bedroom with its own bathroom, a separate WC and a utility room. Three more bedrooms and a second bathroom are upstairs. The layout can be adapted to suit you, and a plot of this size comfortably takes a pool, a terrace and mature planting.
Water and electricity run nearby and the connections are surveyed and quoted as part of the works.
About Grandparigny and the Mortainais
Grandparigny is a commune of several joined villages in the rolling bocage just north of Mortain, and its appeal is the combination: open countryside in every direction, and a proper town two minutes away.
The Mortainais is the high, granite corner of the Manche, and the walking here is the best in the department. Within a short drive there are two waterfalls in a wooded gorge, a twelfth-century Cistercian abbey with its cloister intact, a ridge chapel with a view that reaches Mont-Saint-Michel, and the valleys of the Sée and the Sélune — both fine salmon and trout rivers — running either side. Disused railway lines have been turned into traffic-free greenways that run for miles.
Mortain itself provides the everyday: supermarkets, a primary school and a collège, doctors, a dentist, a pharmacy, a library, restaurants and a weekly market. Sourdeval is ten minutes for a cinema and more shops. Vire, twenty-five minutes north, and Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët, twenty minutes south, give a fuller range and further secondary schooling.
The Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel is around half an hour, the Mont itself about forty minutes, Caen and its ferry terminal roughly an hour, Saint-Malo an hour and a quarter, and Rennes with its airport and TGV a little over an hour.
