Gathemo is a small, tranquil village in the Manche and one of the highest communes in the department, standing on the granite spine of the Mortainais hills. The reward is a landscape quite unlike the postcard Normandy of the coast: big skies, long views over rolling bocage, and a deep, restful quiet that settles over you the moment you arrive. It's honest, working southern Normandy — the kind of country British buyers have loved for its space, its greenery, and its easy run back across the Channel.

Sourdeval, the nearest market town, with shops, schools, medical services, and a weekly market, is just 6 km away, while Vire Normandie — a substantial town with supermarkets, a hospital, a cinema, restaurants, and a railway station — is around 15 minutes by road.
