About Feugères
Feugères is a small village in the centre-west of the Manche, near Périers, on the edge of one of the most distinctive landscapes in France: the Parc naturel régional des Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin.
The marshes are enormous — tens of thousands of hectares of wet meadow, reed and slow water that flood each winter and dry into grazing each summer. They are a bird landscape of real importance, with storks, harriers, waders and huge numbers of overwintering ducks and geese, and there are hides, boardwalks and a visitor centre at Saint-Côme-du-Mont. In summer the hay meadows and the old peat cuttings are quiet, wide and full of light.
Périers, a few minutes away, has supermarkets, a school, doctors, a pharmacy and a weekly market. Carentan, with its marina and its D-Day history, is around twenty minutes; Saint-Lô is a similar distance.
The west-coast beaches — Créances, Pirou, Gouville-sur-Mer with its famous row of coloured huts — are around twenty-five minutes, and the oyster and mussel beds along that coast are among the best in France. Utah Beach and the American landing sites are half an hour north, Coutances and its cathedral about twenty-five minutes south, and Cherbourg and its ferry port around fifty minutes.
