A 640 m² plot in the middle of the village at Cerisy-la-Salle — so the bakery, the shop and the school are a walk rather than a drive. With a brand new two-bedroom bungalow on it, the total is €178,020.
The house is our two-bedroom bungalow: 75 m², everything on one level. A bright open-plan living, dining and kitchen area opens onto the terrace and garden, with two bedrooms, a modern bathroom, a separate WC and a utility room. The layout can be adapted to your wishes and a garage can be added as an option.
The plot is advertised as unserviced with the networks at the boundary and a mains drainage connection required. Both are surveyed and quoted as part of the works, and mains drainage is a good outcome — it means no individual treatment system to install or maintain.
About Cerisy-la-Salle
Cerisy-la-Salle is a village in the centre of the Manche, in the gentle bocage between Coutances and Saint-Lô. It is a proper working village with a bakery, shops, a school and a community that is there all year, rather than a hamlet that empties in winter.
Its great house is famous out of all proportion to the village's size. The Château de Cerisy-la-Salle, a handsome seventeenth-century building in schist and granite, has since 1952 been the home of the Centre Culturel International de Cerisy, which runs an internationally known programme of conferences and colloquia — Barthes, Derrida and Heidegger all came here. The park is open and the setting is lovely.
Coutances is around fifteen minutes: a cathedral city whose Gothic towers are visible for miles, with a hospital, supermarkets, secondary schools, a railway station and the beautiful Jardin des Plantes. Saint-Lô is a similar distance the other way.
The west-coast beaches of the Cotentin — Agon-Coutainville, Hauteville, Gouville-sur-Mer with its famous row of coloured fishermen's huts — are twenty-five to thirty minutes away, and the oysters at Blainville and Gouville are among the best in France. Granville and its port are around forty minutes, Mont-Saint-Michel about an hour, Cherbourg and its ferries an hour and a quarter, and Caen roughly an hour.
