Five hundred metres from the beach, on a 500 m² plot, in what many people think is the most attractive small resort on the whole Vendée coast. A brand new four-bedroom house on it comes to €342,500 all in.
The house is our four-bedroom design with two bathrooms, over two floors with a garage. Downstairs there is a bright open-plan living and dining room opening onto the terrace and garden, a fitted kitchen, a bedroom with its own bathroom, a separate WC and a utility room. Three further bedrooms, a second bathroom and another WC are upstairs. The layout can be adapted to suit you, and the plot is comfortably large enough for a pool.
About Jard-sur-Mer
Jard-sur-Mer has managed something unusual: it is a proper seaside resort with a marina, and it has stayed quiet and green. Seven kilometres of coast hold eight sandy beaches, from the sheltered Boisvinet and the Plage de la Mine to the wilder stretches towards Saint-Vincent, and a national forest of maritime pine comes right down behind them, so the walking and cycling start at the end of the road rather than after a drive.
The port de plaisance sits at the heart of the village, with a few hundred berths and the cafés and restaurants that go with it. Inland from the dunes the marshes take over, full of waders and herons, laced with paths and good for kayaking. Surfing, sailing, paddleboarding, sea fishing and riding are all available, and the village keeps a working centre with bakeries, shops, restaurants and a market.
The area's landmark is next door at Saint-Vincent-sur-Jard: the house where Georges Clemenceau — "le Tigre", the prime minister who led France through the end of the First World War — spent his last years, kept as he left it, with his garden running down towards the dunes. It is one of the most affecting small museums in France.
Les Sables-d'Olonne, with its railway station, hospital and full range of shops, is around twenty-five minutes up the coast. La Roche-sur-Yon is roughly forty minutes inland, and Nantes and its international airport about an hour and three quarters.
