About Notre-Dame-de-Monts
Notre-Dame-de-Monts is the quieter middle of the three Monts communes, sitting between the dunes and the forest on one of the longest continuous stretches of sand in France. The beach here is wide, flat and clean, and because the resort is small it stays comfortable even in August.
The commune's landmark is the Pey de la Blet, the high dune behind the village, with a viewing platform that looks out over the whole coast — the forest running south, the sea in front, and on a clear day the Île d'Yeu on the horizon. Below it, the Forêt domaniale des Pays de Monts is laced with waymarked walking and cycling routes; the coastal cycle path runs unbroken from here up to Fromentine and down through Saint-Jean-de-Monts, so the whole coast opens up on two wheels.
The village itself has bakeries, a supermarket, cafés, restaurants and a summer market, with everything larger a few minutes away in Saint-Jean-de-Monts. Sailing, sand-yachting, surfing and riding are all on the doorstep, and the boats to the Île d'Yeu leave from Fromentine, ten minutes north.
Challans is around twenty minutes inland for the weekly market and the full range of shops and services. Nantes and its international airport are a little over an hour by road.
