Here is a brand new, energy-efficient 2-bedroom bungalow in the welcoming market town of Sourdeval, set in the beautiful green countryside of southern Normandy. Single-storey, easy to run, and ready to move straight into, it makes a wonderful holiday home, a comfortable place to retire, or a first step into French life — with everyday amenities on the doorstep and Mont-Saint-Michel within easy reach.
The home centres on a bright, open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area that opens onto the garden. Two comfortable bedrooms, a modern bathroom, a separate WC, and a utility room complete the layout, which can be adapted to your wishes. A garage can be added as an option.
About Sourdeval
Sourdeval is a friendly town of around 3,000 residents in the Manche, sitting on the granite hills where the River Sée has its source. It has a genuinely useful range of services for a town its size — two supermarkets, several bars, cafés and restaurants, banks, a cinema, a school, doctors, and a dentist — along with an excellent produce market every Tuesday that has long been the heart of the town's week. A lovely walking, cycling, and horse-riding path, the old railway line between Mortain and Vire, runs right through, following the river valley.
The surrounding countryside is classic southern Normandy — hedgerows, orchards, wooded valleys, and quiet lanes. The Lac de la Dathée, ideal for walking, fishing, and boating, and an 18-hole golf course lie within 15 minutes, as does the Saint-Sever forest. The waterfalls and medieval streets of Mortain are close by, along with the copper town of Villedieu-les-Poêles and the big market town of Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët. Vire Normandie, with its hospital, full shopping, and railway station, is under 15 minutes away.
For the coast and for travel home, the western beaches are around an hour away, the ferry port of Caen is about 80 minutes, and Cherbourg around an hour and forty. A little further afield lie the D-Day landing beaches and, of course, Mont-Saint-Michel — one of the wonders of the world, and an easy day out from your door.
